USAC takes the track at United Sports Arizona
USAC/CRA sprint series driver Scotty Weir of Marion, IN became the 10th different winner in 10 starts for the popular touring division. In the 30 lap feature R. J. Johnson of Phoenix, who has already scored a victory this season, looked like he might become the first repeat winner as he closed hard on Weir several times. In the end the no repeat winner streak was extended at least one more race. Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria, CA set fast time in qualifying. David Cardey of Riverside, CA, Mike Leslie of Phoenix and Andrew Reinbold of Chandler won there heat races.
The number 11 was a lucky number for two drivers at USA Race Park Friday night.
The number 11 won the main event twice at USA Race Park on Friday night, but on two different cars. Before Steve Kinser drove his number 11 World of Outlaws sprint car to victory lane, Garrett Guilkey drove his Arizona Modified Midget to victory lane. Both cars started on the outside poll position, both cars took the lead early in their race and held on to win, but that is where the similarities end. You see Steve Kinser is the "King" of the World of Outlaws now with 534 wins and 20 championships. Garrett Guilkey is 16. That's not 16th in points, that's 16 years old!
Before Friday night Kinser had only 1 top ten finish in 5 starts while Guilkey has won all three of his. While Kinser had never been on the USA Race Park surface it's Guilkey's favorite track. While this will be Kinser's only trip to the track this year Guilkey will be back with the AMMA 12 times this season starting March 31st.
